Hi,
Could someone explain what pixeldimming is and why it's important.
I read the Help section "?" but I don't really understand.

This feature would have following effects by dimming pixels.
Prevent over-cure.
Preserve details.
Make it possible to use one profile/cure time for pieces with any thickness.
Increase your PDMS life time.
Recommended Settings
Dimming Type
Checkerboard
Dimming Amount
35%
Wall Around Dimmed Area in Pixel
3 - Depends on x/y resolution
Skip Layers
5 - To have stronger support structure, turns off this feature for number of layer

I don't really understand it (or use it right now) either, but I believe Dean at muve3D worked with Shahin to add it to nanoDLP to help with large solid areas from overcuring.
If you join the muve3D Google group there are a few posts from Dean about it.

It is pretty normal you could not find anything about it online. it is an unique feature.
As you know each pixel leak some light to neighbouring pixels. More concentrated pixels together cause more leak. Projectors picture engine one of main reason for this issue.
Lets say white color is 10 and black is 0 and you have only one pixel in middle fully light on. Its neighbouring pixels probably 1
So when you display something like this.
00 00 00
00 10 00
00 00 00
In reality due to leakage projector display something like this.
01 01 01
01 10 01
01 01 01
01 are not strong enough to cause any issue. But lets say white part is very large.
250x250 pixel white box. It will cause at-least couple of pixels around white box to be totally white.
So you need to decrease cure time for large pieces and increase for small pieces.
But when you turn on the pixel dimming it prevents light leak to large extend.

That's got me wondering now what the recommended procedure is re: pixel dimming, generating and using a mask, and developing dynamic cure algorithms.

Personally I only use pixel dimming and it depends on your models and resin types. 35% 3px wall is perfect setting for my prints.

I really need to try this.
My printer uses a very light sensitive Resin (Photocentric Daylight).
I print from stock LCD (iPad4) which has major view angle (good for viewing not good for printing).

Do you believe that the XY bleeding could be mitigated with this feature turned on?
(and preserve details)? Or are we talking about something else here.

I have seen advantage of using dimming for both PDMS and FEP. For PDMS it is more critical, for the FEP it is about even forms and better details.
I have not test any LCD based printers so I do not know if it could have same effect or not. But in worst case If you turn dimming on, I guess you could keep cure time for both tiny details and large pieces same.

Has anyone noticed a large difference between homogeneous and checkerboard? I'm using FEP and checkerboard, the prints work great - just wondering if anyone has experimented further on these items.
